Physical therapist assistants run much of the daily treatment under a PT's plan of care, so the bag is built for treatment, progressions and clear communication with the supervising PT. Your setting and state rules shape the details.
The bag
- Gait belt. Transfers and gait training across settings.
- Resistance bands and a mini band. Progress the exercise program the plan calls for.
- Goniometer. Track range of motion to report changes to the PT.
- Blood pressure cuff and pulse oximeter. Monitor response to activity, especially in SNF and home health.
- Copy of the plan of care or quick-reference notes. Stay inside the goals and interventions the PT set.
- A way to reach your supervising PT. Know how to flag a change in status fast.
- Printed home exercise handouts. Reinforce the program at every visit.
- Water, snacks and supportive shoes. Treatment days are on your feet.
Pro tip
When something changes, such as new pain, a fall or a vitals concern, document it and loop in the supervising PT. That handoff protects the patient and you. See the PTA notes in our billing guide.
